Hello, world.

Meet Joan, Rishi, Hecate, Phyllis, & Chaga.

These Bresse and Bielefelder chickens were adopted by my friend Lucinda Weed … in this, the year of our Lord Satan, 2020.

There are some brightsides to the pandemic. Bright enough to need shades? Probably not. But, worth basking in, all the same. Lucinda found herself with more time at home. She also has a real green thumb, a love of sustainability … and a cute back courtyard at her 7th Ward home.

Chickens were a very logical answer to our global question of, “What now?”

All of the chickens are delightful, but Joan is definitely the hostess of the crew.

If you live in New Orleans and you want to recycle your table scraps in a sustainable way, reach out to me. I’d be happy to collect them for Joan & the Gang.

If you want a pet portrait, you can also reach out at JennyAdamsFreelance@gmail.com.

I’m hoping to eventually sell a story about people who’ve gotten fun, exotic pets during this time, but so far, no editor has bitten on the idea. (Pun intended)

I had a fabulous time taking chicken pictures, nonetheless. Thank you, Lucinda!
